Buoy Studio partnered with Netflix to produce a branded Roblox hub and individual game tiles for well known IPs.  My role was Game Director for the Stranger Things and Rebel Moon experiences.  Using more AAA art production techniques, we were able to create striking visuals along with a dynamic first person team-deathmatch experience that feels in-line with the energy of the film.


REBEL MOON: Outskirt Battles

Dynamic First Person Shooter based on the events on Veldt from Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Part 2:  Scargiver.

Choose your side:

This is a points based team-deathmatch style FPS where the player can choose to either be part of the Farmer and Rebel defense or as soldiers trying to assert their dominance for the Motherworld. 



Dynamic Gameplay:

During the battle, objective based gameplay like “Defend the Bell” and environmental events like crashed dropships offer a change of pace and strategy of the otherwise already exciting team-deathmatch mechanics.


Environment:  Veldt

Being a key encounter at the end of Part 2, Veldt becomes the battleground for a defensive stand of the Farmers and Rebel heroes as they thwart the attack from the Motherworld.  Our map includes familiar landmarks from the movie, but took liberties in order to acheive a balanced layout with a footprint more condusive to the team sizes.  We utilized the “fog of war” to introduce variable visibility and even created an underground engagement area that references the tunnels from the film.




Weapons

For launch, we focused on three main primary projectile based gun types from the film.  We offer a progression system that enables the players to earn and unlock weapon skins and attachments to allow for weapon customization.


Hero Assets

We continued to bring the world building design from Rebel Moon into Roblox by using AAA art asset creation techniques.  Whenever possible we optimized film assets and baked down the high-poly fidelity along with PBR textures for Studio’s surface appearances.  This process really elevated the visuals and most importantly gave the gameplay an immersive backdrop when paired with movie SFX and score.  Below are shots of our optimized hero ship and tank assets taken inside Roblox Studio.
